Prime Minister Modi to launch Rs 4,000 crore projects in Sikkim.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Sikkim on April 27 and April 28, where he will participate in the concluding ceremony of the state’s 50th Statehood Year celebrations and inaugurate a wide range of development projects valued at over Rs 4,000 crore. The visit is expected to cover major announcements across infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, and energy sectors.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Gangtok around 3 pm on April 27. On April 28 morning, he will visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok, where the newly developed Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park showcases the region’s biodiversity and floral heritage. Later in the day, he will attend the main closing ceremony at Paljor Stadium, where he is also expected to address a public gathering.
During the event, Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major projects spread across multiple sectors. These include initiatives in connectivity, healthcare, urban development, agriculture, and environmental conservation. The government has described the development push as part of a broader effort to boost infrastructure and improve public services in the northeastern state.

Among the key announcements, the Prime Minister will unveil the permanent campus of Sikkim University, along with institutions such as the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Centre of Excellence, Helen Lepcha Medical College, and Dantem Professional College. He will also initiate model residential schools, new degree colleges, monastic hostels, and IT-enabled learning systems across 160 schools to strengthen the education network.
In the healthcare sector, Modi is expected to lay the foundation for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital in Yangang, Namchi district, and inaugurate a 30-bed Integrated Sowa-Rigpa hospital at NIT Deorali. These projects aim to expand both modern and traditional healthcare access in the state, with emphasis on indigenous medical systems.
Infrastructure and environmental projects will also feature prominently during the visit. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation for two double-lane steel-arch bridges over the Teesta River and announce upgrades to road and transmission networks in Gangtok. Additional initiatives include river pollution control projects, eco-tourism development, pilgrimage infrastructure upgrades, and agro-processing facilities aimed at supporting farmers and boosting rural livelihoods.
