PM Modi Says Uttar Pradesh Will Become $1 Trillion Economy Under BJP Government
PM Modi says Uttar Pradesh is progressing toward a $1 trillion economy while criticising past governments.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a strong political attack on previous governments while addressing a large public gathering in Hardoi, where he also inaugurated the Ganga Expressway. He said Uttar Pradesh, once described as a “backward” or “BIMARU” state, is now on a fast development track and moving towards becoming a $1 trillion economy under the BJP-led “double-engine” government.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi highlighted that the Ganga Expressway project, whose foundation stone was laid in December 2021, has been completed in less than five years. He described it as one of the country’s largest expressways and the longest green corridor in Uttar Pradesh. He said such rapid completion reflects the working model of the current government, contrasting it with delays seen in earlier administrations.
The Prime Minister also referred to other infrastructure projects, including the recently inaugurated Delhi–Dehradun Expressway. He said expressways are becoming the “lifelines of Viksit Bharat,” as they improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost economic activity. Modi added that better road networks are helping farmers, traders, and industries by linking rural areas to major markets more efficiently.

Criticising past governments, PM Modi alleged that development projects earlier remained stuck in files for years and were often announced only for electoral purposes. He said that in contrast, the current government ensures timely completion of infrastructure projects once they are launched. He also claimed that Uttar Pradesh, once associated with poor roads and law-and-order issues, has now emerged as the state with the highest number of expressways in India.
Focusing on the state’s economic progress, the Prime Minister said Uttar Pradesh is now aiming to become a one-trillion-dollar economy, supported by its large youth population and growing manufacturing sector. He highlighted improvements in connectivity, noting that the state now has 21 airports, including five international airports, and that the Noida International Airport will further enhance regional access and development.
In the final part of his address, PM Modi also targeted opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of opposing key reforms such as the Women’s Reservation Bill. He said the current government is focused on empowering women, improving infrastructure, and transforming Uttar Pradesh into a major economic hub, marking what he described as a new era of development in the state.
