PM Modi Reaffirms India's Strong Support for Mauritius Development Priorities

India backs Mauritius with a new economic package for growth and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi to review and strengthen bilateral cooperation. Both leaders highlighted progress under the Special Economic Package and reaffirmed their commitment to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

The meeting focused on collaboration in emerging technologies, infrastructure, healthcare, and employment, with PM Modi reiterating India’s support for Mauritius’ development priorities under Vision MAHASAGAR and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. Ramgoolam described the meeting as a “clear sign of strengthening ties” and expressed gratitude for India’s continued support.

Following their discussions, Modi announced a Special Economic Package for Mauritius aimed at boosting infrastructure, generating employment, and improving healthcare facilities. The package reflects India’s role as a trusted development partner in the Indian Ocean Region, particularly under its strategic focus on the Global South.

India and Mauritius share historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties, with Mauritius acting as a key maritime partner in the region. The bilateral relationship has been strengthened through multiple high-level visits, including Modi’s visit to Mauritius in March 2025 and Ramgoolam’s state visit to India in September 2025.

The leaders also discussed future avenues of collaboration, emphasizing technology-driven growth, regional stability, and sustainable development. Both sides expressed commitment to achieving shared objectives that enhance prosperity for their peoples while deepening India-Mauritius cooperation across sectors.
