PM Modi begins Netherlands visit to strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday evening as part of his multi-nation diplomatic tour aimed at deepening India’s strategic and economic engagement with European partners. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across sectors including trade, semiconductors, clean energy, water management, agriculture, defence, and emerging technologies.
Announcing the Prime Minister’s arrival, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would further enhance the “multifaceted India–Netherlands partnership” and provide an opportunity to engage with the Indian diaspora in mainland Europe. Modi’s trip comes amid growing economic collaboration between India and the European Union, particularly following progress on trade and investment discussions.
In a post on X, Narendra Modi said the visit was taking place at a significant moment for India-Europe ties, noting that the India-European Union free trade agreement negotiations had given fresh momentum to trade and investment relations. He added that discussions during the visit would explore deeper collaboration in sectors such as semiconductors, water technology, and clean energy.The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof in The Hague.

The discussions are expected to centre on boosting economic cooperation, expanding technological partnerships, and enhancing collaboration in innovation-driven sectors that are increasingly important to both countries.During his visit, Modi will also meet Willem-Alexander and Máxima. In addition to official engagements, he is expected to interact with members of the Indian community in the Netherlands at a diaspora event scheduled for May 16.
India and the Netherlands have steadily expanded bilateral ties in recent years, with cooperation growing in areas such as sustainable development, maritime security, renewable energy, and technology innovation. The Netherlands remains an important European economic partner for India and is among the leading destinations for Indian exports and investment in the region.
