The development comes at a time when Deve Gowda and his son, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, have intensified political outreach in Karnataka. The meeting also follows Deve Gowda’s sharp criticism of the Congress during the JD(S) silver jubilee convention, where he accused the ruling party of targeting his family politically. He asserted that the recent public mobilization in Hassan demonstrated that the JD(S) remains a strong force in the state under Kumaraswamy’s leadership.
Adding to the political significance, Kumaraswamy recently acknowledged public support for his potential Chief Ministerial candidacy in 2028, while stating that his immediate focus is on guiding Karnataka’s development. Deve Gowda also reiterated plans to seek central support for pending projects in Hassan, including the IIT sanctioned during Kumaraswamy’s tenure.
Despite ongoing controversies involving family members, Deve Gowda emphasized his long political journey and resilience. At 93, he asserted that his conscience remains clear and credited the people of Hassan for standing by him through electoral defeats, legal challenges, and decades of public service.
