PM Modi Links Self-Confidence to Viksit Bharat After India-US Tariff Reduction to 18%
PM Modi credits national self-belief for enabling breakthroughs like the India-US trade pact.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised that self-confidence and national resolve are key to achieving ambitious goals, as he welcomed the recently concluded India–United States trade deal. Speaking shortly after the agreement was finalised, the Prime Minister described the pact as a reflection of India’s growing economic strength and its ability to engage major global partners on equal terms.
PM Modi said the agreement underscores India’s confidence in its own capabilities and its commitment to safeguarding national interests while expanding global economic ties. He noted that India today negotiates from a position of strength, driven by reforms and a clear long-term vision. “Self-confidence makes everything possible,” he said, linking the deal to the broader idea of a self-reliant yet globally connected India.
According to the government, the India–US deal is expected to enhance bilateral trade, encourage investment, and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries. Officials indicated that the agreement covers key sectors and is designed to provide greater market access while ensuring balanced and fair outcomes for domestic industries. The deal is also seen as a step toward strengthening supply chain resilience amid global economic uncertainty.

The Prime Minister highlighted that sustained dialogue and mutual trust between New Delhi and Washington played a crucial role in concluding the agreement. He pointed out that India and the United States, as two large democracies, share common strategic and economic interests, and trade cooperation has become an increasingly important pillar of the overall bilateral relationship.
PM Modi also linked the agreement to India’s reform-driven growth story, citing improvements in infrastructure, taxation systems, and the ease of doing business. These changes, he said, have boosted investor confidence and enhanced India’s credibility in international negotiations.
The India–US trade deal comes at a time when India is actively seeking to expand its global trade footprint while protecting domestic priorities. Analysts view the agreement as a signal of India’s intent to play a larger role in shaping global economic partnerships, anchored in confidence, competitiveness, and cooperation.
