PM Modi: India Negotiated Trade Deals with 38 Countries from "Position of Strength"

India leveraged strong manufacturing, services, and MSMEs to secure FTAs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in an exclusive interview with the Press Trust of India that India negotiated free trade agreements (FTAs) with 38 countries from a “position of strength.” He attributed this advantage to India’s robust manufacturing sector, expanding services industry, and resilient micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Prime Minister emphasized that the nation’s political stability and predictability had significantly bolstered investor confidence, allowing India to secure trade deals that protect domestic industries while opening new international markets. According to him, these factors positioned India advantageously during complex negotiations.

Modi highlighted that India’s economic reforms, infrastructure improvements, and policy consistency played a key role in enabling the country to engage on equal footing with global trade partners. He stated that strong domestic capabilities allowed India to demand mutually beneficial terms while promoting exports and technology exchange.

He also noted that these agreements are not limited to traditional sectors, but strategically include manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and services, reflecting India’s growing influence in global trade dynamics. The deals aim to enhance market access while ensuring domestic growth and employment generation.

The Prime Minister further indicated that India’s approach to trade diplomacy focused on long-term partnerships and sustainable economic cooperation. By negotiating from a position of strength, India seeks to ensure that FTAs contribute to both global integration and domestic economic resilience.
