Amit Shah: Farmers Safe in Trade Deals – Rahul Gandhi Spreading Lies
Amit Shah assures farmers and dairy sector fully protected in US, UK, EU trade deals, calls Rahul Gandhi's claims lies.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday strongly refuted allegations made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding India’s recent trade agreements. Addressing a public gathering in Gandhinagar, Shah accused the Opposition of spreading misinformation about the impact of trade pacts with the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union. He maintained that the government has taken comprehensive measures to safeguard farmers and the dairy sector.
The remarks were made during an event marking the launch of India’s first Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Public Distribution System. Shah described the Opposition’s criticism as “laughable” and asserted that the current administration, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has consistently prioritised rural welfare. He emphasised that no trade agreement has been signed at the cost of domestic agricultural interests.
Responding specifically to concerns over the dairy sector, Shah dismissed claims that international trade deals would weaken India’s milk producers. He stated that the government has, in fact, strengthened the dairy industry through sustained policy support and expansion initiatives. According to Shah, every agreement with the European Union, England, and America contains provisions that fully protect Indian dairy farmers.

Shah also challenged Gandhi to a public debate, saying the Congress leader could select any platform to discuss who has truly worked for farmers’ welfare. He argued that the Congress party has historically misled the farming community, while the present government has ensured stability through reforms, procurement mechanisms, and market expansion opportunities.
The political exchange comes amid recent trade developments, including a reported reduction in US tariffs on Indian goods following a phone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump. Additionally, India and the European Union recently concluded negotiations on a proposed free trade agreement aimed at boosting bilateral commerce. Shah reiterated that such agreements are designed to enhance economic growth while protecting the nation’s agricultural backbone.
