PM Modi Inaugurates Three New Metro Routes in Kolkata, City Gets First Airport Link
Kolkata gets first metro link to airport
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off three new metro routes in Kolkata, including the city’s first-ever direct metro connection to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
The Prime Minister was joined at the inauguration by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya, and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar.
The newly launched 13.61 km-long network spans the Green, Yellow and Orange lines, adding fresh capacity to a metro system that has been a lifeline for the city since its debut in 1984.

Officials said the new corridors will significantly ease congestion on Kolkata’s overcrowded roads and bring a major relief to daily commuters, particularly with the airport link seen as a game-changer for connectivity.
