PM Modi Asks Parth Pawar About His Mother During Breakfast Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Parth Pawar about his mother, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, during a breakfast meeting with newly elected NDA Lok Sabha MPs. In a brief conversation in Marathi, Modi asked Parth how his mother was doing and advised him to take care of her. The exchange took place amid the ongoing political activity in Parliament.

Parth Pawar is the son of Ajit Pawar, who served as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister before his death in January this year. Ajit Pawar died after an aircraft carrying him crashed near the edge of a tabletop runway at Baramati airport in Pune district. The aircraft caught fire during what officials described as a second landing attempt amid poor visibility. Following his death, his wife Sunetra Pawar took over as Deputy Chief Minister.

The Prime Minister's breakfast meeting with NDA MPs was held against the backdrop of continued disruptions in Parliament. Around 45 MPs attended the gathering, including members of the Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress Party of India and the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar. Modi urged the MPs to participate actively in parliamentary debates and expressed concern that disruptions were preventing newly elected members from getting opportunities to speak in the House.

According to sources, Modi described Parliament as the "supreme temple of democracy" and stressed the need for proceedings to run smoothly. He also encouraged the MPs to read, learn and understand the history of Parliament. The Prime Minister's remarks came as Opposition protests and disruptions continued to affect the functioning of both Houses during the ongoing session.

Modi also sought to reassure members who had recently changed political affiliations and joined NDA constituents. He told them that the NDA was a family and assured MPs that members of its constituent parties would be respected and given opportunities. The Prime Minister emphasised that his support extended to every NDA MP rather than being limited to any particular constituent party.

The breakfast meeting formed part of Modi's broader outreach to NDA lawmakers during the parliamentary session. Earlier on Wednesday, he had hosted a dinner meeting with 37 BJP MPs at his official residence. The interactions come as the government seeks greater participation from its lawmakers in parliamentary proceedings while disruptions continue to remain a major point of concern during the session.
