Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha on June 20 for a high-profile event in Mayurbhanj district, where he will be joined by President Droupadi Murmu. The joint visit marks a rare occasion where India’s top two constitutional authorities will participate together in an official programme within the state.
The visit will centre around Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, where the leaders are expected to attend events commemorating two years of the BJP-led government in Odisha. The programme, themed “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara,” is designed to highlight development initiatives and governance milestones while showcasing the state’s growing infrastructure push.
During the visit, the Prime Minister and the President are also scheduled to travel to Pahadpur, the President’s in-laws’ village, where they will offer prayers at the sacred groves Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera. The itinerary also includes visits to local institutions such as a skill development centre and a school, reflecting a focus on education, rural upliftment, and tribal welfare in the region.

At the main event in Rairangpur, both leaders are expected to participate in a large public programme where foundation stones will be laid and multiple development projects will be inaugurated. The combined value of these projects is estimated at over ₹47,600 crore and spans sectors including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, irrigation, roads, and industrial development.
Among the key initiatives are major energy projects such as the Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project and the expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station. Infrastructure projects, including road widening, bridge construction, and urban mobility upgrades, are also part of the development package aimed at improving connectivity and economic activity across Odisha.
Security has been significantly tightened across Mayurbhanj district in anticipation of the high-profile visit, with Odisha Police deploying extensive arrangements at key venues. President Murmu, who is currently on a two-day visit to her native district, is expected to arrive in Mayurbhanj ahead of the joint programme, underscoring the significance of the occasion for the region.
