Over 100 Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning From Wedding Sweets In Rajasthan
Over 100 villagers fell sick after consuming sweets at a wedding in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror region.
Over 100 people fell ill following suspected food poisoning after consuming sweets at a wedding function in Dhani Gaskan village of the Viratnagar area in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, officials said on Saturday. The incident has prompted a health and food safety investigation after multiple villagers, including children, reported symptoms such as vomiting and stomach pain.
According to officials, the sweets—including rasmalai—were prepared for a wedding ceremony on Thursday night and distributed among villagers on Friday. Shortly after consuming them, around 105 people began experiencing illness symptoms, raising concerns of widespread food contamination linked to the event.
The affected individuals were initially admitted to the community health centre in Atela for treatment. Medical staff later referred 16 children and 14 adults to the Shahpura community health centre for further care as a precautionary measure. Health officials stated that most patients were stabilised after receiving timely treatment, and several have since been discharged.

Sub-Divisional Officer Kapil Kumar Upadhyay confirmed that medical teams responded quickly after being alerted about the situation. He said that all patients were provided immediate care and that the majority recovered after initial treatment, reducing the severity of the outbreak.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the suspected food poisoning. Food safety officials collected samples from the wedding venue, which have been sent to a laboratory for detailed testing. The results are expected to determine whether contamination occurred during preparation, storage, or distribution of the sweets.
Following the incident, administrative and health department officials visited the village to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts. The case has raised fresh concerns about food hygiene standards at large public gatherings, particularly in rural areas where mass catering is common during wedding events.
