Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms This Week
Delhi ministers inspect flood damage, vow swift compensation for farmers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Odisha on Thursday and Friday, driven by a cyclonic circulation over southern Odisha and northern coastal Andhra Pradesh. The weather system, extending up to 3.1 km above sea level, is expected to bring light to moderate showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph to most districts, according to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty.
An orange warning, urging preparedness, has been issued for Malkangiri district, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated on Thursday. Other districts are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds on both days. The IMD reported that Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur district recorded the highest rainfall of 6 cm on Wednesday, with scattered showers across the state.
While the intensity of rainfall is expected to subside after Friday, light to moderate showers may persist in some areas until September 14. The IMD’s bulletin underscores the need for vigilance as the cyclonic circulation could disrupt normal activities, urging residents and authorities to stay prepared for potential impacts from the adverse weather conditions.
