Nitish Kumar Resigns Ahead of Fresh NDA Government, Swearing-In on November 20
Nitish resigns, NDA preps new Bihar government.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar formally submitted a recommendation for the dissolution of the incumbent government to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday, paving the way for the establishment of a fresh administration under the National Democratic Alliance. This procedural step precedes Kumar’s anticipated reappointment, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Thursday, November 20. The move reflects a strategic realignment within the coalition following recent electoral outcomes and internal deliberations.
On Sunday, Kumar convened extensive discussions with key NDA leaders at his official residence in Patna to finalize the contours of the incoming government. Sources within the alliance indicate that the portfolio distribution will mirror the seat-sharing framework employed during the election campaign. Under this arrangement, Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) will continue to hold the Chief Minister’s position, ensuring continuity in leadership while accommodating partners’ aspirations.
The emerging power-sharing structure designates one Deputy Chief Minister post each to the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), fostering equilibrium among major constituents. This dual deputy configuration aims to reinforce coalition cohesion and address representational demands across ideological and regional lines. The formula underscores a calculated approach to governance stability in a politically diverse state.

In terms of ministerial allocations, the BJP is projected to secure 15 to 16 berths, reflecting its substantial legislative strength, while JD(U) will claim approximately 14 positions. The LJP (Ram Vilas) is slated for three ministries, with Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha each receiving one portfolio. This distribution seeks to balance influence proportionate to electoral contributions and alliance commitments.
The reconstitution process highlights the NDA’s emphasis on inclusive governance as Bihar navigates developmental priorities and administrative reforms. With the oath-taking ceremony imminent, attention shifts to policy announcements and the execution of the coalition’s mandate in the new term.
