Nitish Kumar To Take Oath as Bihar CM on Nov 20; PM Modi, Top Leaders to Attend
Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar CM for the tenth time in a grand ceremony on November 20.
Bihar is preparing for a grand political event as Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar will take the oath of office as Chief Minister on November 20 at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The ceremony will mark Nitish Kumar’s tenth swearing-in and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, and the Chief Ministers of all NDA-ruled states, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the state this decade.
According to senior officials, the Patna administration has intensified preparations for the high-profile ceremony. Top police and administrative officers have conducted coordination meetings to ensure tight security and smooth proceedings on the day. The event is expected to serve as a public show of unity and strength for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following its sweeping victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections.
In the two-phase Assembly polls earlier this month, the NDA secured a massive 202-seat majority. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s JDU bagged 85. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) contributed 19 seats to the tally, emerging as a significant partner in the coalition. Smaller allies like Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha also played key roles in consolidating the alliance’s position.

Sources have indicated that power-sharing talks within the alliance are nearing completion. The BJP is likely to get around 15 ministerial berths in the new cabinet, while the JDU will receive 14. The LJP (Ram Vilas) is expected to secure three positions, and both HAM and RLM may get one cabinet berth each. The formal election of Nitish Kumar as leader of the NDA legislative group is expected to conclude later today, paving the way for his swearing-in ceremony.
Nitish Kumar, who first became Chief Minister in 2005, holds the distinction of being Bihar’s longest-serving leader. His tenure, known for its administrative reforms and infrastructural push, has occasionally seen political realignments, including brief separations from allies. Despite those shifts, his leadership remains central to NDA politics in Bihar. His upcoming oath ceremony will reinforce his political resilience and mark the beginning of another chapter in his long career.
