Nine CRPF Jawans Hurt After Vehicle Falls into Srinagar River

CRPF vehicle lost control on Dagpora-Umerhair Road in Ahmadnagar, falling into river.

Nine personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sustained injuries on Saturday when their vehicle plunged into a river in the outskirts of Srinagar. The incident occurred on the Dagpora-Umerhair Road in the Ahmadnagar locality, where the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and fall into the water body, officials said.

The accident took place in a peripheral area of the city, amid ongoing security deployments in the Kashmir Valley. CRPF units are frequently deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for counter-insurgency operations, law and order maintenance, and area domination duties. Such road incidents, while not uncommon in hilly and riverine terrains, highlight the risks faced by security personnel during routine movements.

All nine injured jawans were promptly rescued and shifted to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) hospital in Soura for treatment. Medical sources indicated that their condition is stable, with multiple injuries reported but no life-threatening cases so far. Rescue efforts involved local police and possibly SDRF teams, though details on the exact nature of the vehicle—described in some accounts as a bulletproof bunker type—remain consistent with operational requirements in the region.

The mishap underscores the challenges of operating in Kashmir's varied landscape, where narrow roads, water channels, and weather conditions can contribute to such accidents. Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause, such as mechanical failure, road conditions, or other factors, but an inquiry is likely underway to prevent recurrence.

This event comes at a time when security forces continue to maintain a high alert posture in the Valley amid occasional militant activities. The swift medical response and stable condition of the personnel have been noted positively by officials, who expressed relief that the incident did not result in fatalities. CRPF spokespersons confirmed the details, emphasizing quick evacuation and care for the affected troops.
