NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide After Leaving Heartbreaking Message For Parents

A NEET aspirant died by suicide at her residence in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district after reportedly feeling distressed over her performance in the medical entrance examination, police said. The student, identified as Ankita Sangle, was found dead at her home in Jalalpur village on Saturday evening. According to her family members, Ankita was under severe emotional stress after scoring 166 marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). They said she had been preparing for the medical entrance examination and was upset over not achieving the expected result.

Ankita was found hanging inside her room at around 4.30 pm on Saturday. Following the incident, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. A handwritten suicide note in Marathi was recovered from the room, officials said. In the note, Ankita expressed regret over not being able to fulfil her family’s expectations despite their support. She wrote that her parents and brother had made significant sacrifices for her education and that she felt she had failed to repay their efforts.

"You gave me so much love, but I couldn't fulfil even one of your wishes. Mom, you supported me like a friend in every difficulty. Dada (brother), you also supported me a lot. You loved me even more than Mom and Dad. You are not responsible for my suicide," she wrote in the letter. She also mentioned the sacrifices her family had made during her NEET preparation and urged her brother to look after their parents. In the note, she requested him to ensure that their parents were cared for and did not face difficulties in the future.

Police have registered an accidental death case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident. Officials said further details will emerge after the completion of the investigation and examination of the available evidence. The incident highlights the intense pressure faced by many students preparing for competitive examinations such as NEET, where lakhs of candidates compete for limited medical seats every year. Education experts and mental health professionals have repeatedly stressed the importance of emotional support, realistic expectations and open communication with students facing academic challenges.

Authorities and educators have often advised students struggling with examination-related stress to seek help from family members, teachers, counsellors or professional support services. They have also urged parents and communities to focus on students’ overall well-being rather than only academic outcomes. Ankita’s death has once again brought attention to the need for stronger support systems for students dealing with the pressures of competitive exams. As police continue their probe, her family and local community are mourning the loss of the young aspirant.
