NDA Government Under PM Modi Marks 12 Years Of Welfare And Economic Reforms

Modi government completes 12 years highlighting welfare and global outreach.

The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is set to mark 12 years in power on Tuesday, completing another milestone in its uninterrupted tenure that spans three consecutive terms. The government has highlighted this period as one defined by large-scale welfare initiatives, economic reforms, and a strengthened global presence for India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflecting on the journey, said that the core focus of governance has remained the welfare of the poor and marginalized. He pointed to flagship schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ayushman Bharat as key examples of efforts aimed at ensuring dignity, access, and opportunity for all sections of society. According to him, these initiatives represent a shift toward more targeted and transparent delivery of benefits.

The government’s third term, often referred to as “Modi 3.0,” has been presented as a continuation of this welfare-driven approach alongside efforts to strengthen governance and infrastructure. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA secured 293 seats in the 543-member House, with the Bharatiya Janata Party winning 240 seats. The outcome was widely interpreted as public endorsement of stable leadership, though it also carried expectations for accelerated economic growth, job creation, and development.

On the economic front, the government has emphasized resilience amid global uncertainties, particularly in the post-Covid recovery phase. Major structural reforms such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) have been credited with simplifying India’s indirect tax system. Additionally, initiatives like Digital India and expanded banking access under Jan Dhan Yojana have been highlighted as key drivers of financial inclusion and governance digitisation across the country.

In foreign policy, the government has sought to expand India’s global engagement through trade agreements and strategic partnerships with regions including the United States, European Union, Gulf countries, and ASEAN nations. Officials have also underscored India’s participation in multilateral platforms such as BRICS and BIMSTEC, positioning the country as a growing influence in global economic and diplomatic affairs.

Domestically, the NDA government has continued to emphasize welfare schemes aimed at women, youth, and farmers, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, and Ujjwala Yojana. The administration has also reiterated its governance philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” framing it as the guiding principle for inclusive development and the long-term vision of a developed India by 2047.
