#BreakingNews: Naxal Kingpins Worth Rs 27 Lakh Gunned Down in Chhattisgarh

Two top ultras slain in Chhattisgarh forest showdown.

Security forces gunned down six Naxalites, including dreaded commanders Buchanna Kudiyam and Urmila, in a fierce encounter on November 11 in the dense forests of Bijapur’s Indravati National Park. The slain ultras carried a combined bounty of Rs 27 lakh, with Buchanna and Urmila each valued at Rs 8 lakh for their roles in orchestrating deadly attacks across south Bastar over the past decade.

Buchanna, 35, masterminded over 42 criminal cases, including the 2008 Kongupalli police post assault and the 2016 Nuknarpal camp attack. Accused of murdering more than 20 villagers labeled as informers, triggering IED blasts, and destroying infrastructure, his elimination ends a brutal reign of terror. Police recovered weapons, explosives, and documents linking him to urban Maoist networks now under investigation.

Urmila, wife of senior operative Papa Rao, served as secretary of the violent Pamed Area Committee and handled critical logistics for the PLGA battalion, supplying rations, uniforms, and medicines. Her death severely disrupts Maoist recruitment, propaganda, and supply chains in one of the outfit’s most active zones. Four other cadres, including area committee member Jagat Tamo (Rs 5 lakh bounty), were also neutralized.

The operation, led by District Reserve Guard and Special Task Force units, was launched on intelligence about 50–60 cadres, including top leaders. While Papa Rao and others escaped, forces seized two INSAS rifles, a carbine, grenades, radio sets, and Maoist literature. This year alone, 144 Naxals have been killed in Bijapur, with 499 arrested and 560 surrendered.

Bastar IG Sundarraj P declared the Maoist structure “completely cornered,” with 447 cadres eliminated across the region in 20 months. Authorities aim for a Naxal-free Bastar, urging remaining insurgents to abandon violence and reintegrate into mainstream society.
