Navroz 2026: President Murmu, PM Modi Praise Parsi Community’s Contributions
Murmu and Modi extend Navroz greetings, praising Parsi contributions to India.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Parsi New Year Navroz, highlighting the Parsi community's contributions to India's development. Both leaders wished people peace, prosperity and good health while emphasising the festival's message of renewal and harmony.
President Murmu, in a post on X, extended her greetings to Parsi citizens in India and abroad. She described Navroz as a festival symbolising new beginnings and renewed hope, while noting that it reinforces values of coexistence and service to humanity. She also highlighted the community's contributions through enterprise and philanthropy.
Murmu expressed confidence that Navroz would inspire citizens to work together towards building an inclusive and developed India. She also wished people happiness, peace and prosperity on the occasion, linking the festival's broader message of harmony with the country's shared social fabric.

Prime Minister Modi also extended his greetings through social media, recognising what he described as the Parsi community's remarkable contributions across different sectors. He wished everyone peace, joy, prosperity and good health in the year ahead and conveyed his Navroz greetings to the community.
Navroz, also known as Nowruz, is associated with new beginnings and the renewal of nature. The name comes from Persian, with “Nav” meaning new and “Roz” meaning day. While the festival is traditionally associated with the March equinox, Parsis in India generally observe it according to the Shahenshahi calendar, which places the celebration in July or August.
The festival has roots in Zoroastrianism, an ancient religion originating in Persia, now Iran, and is associated with the teachings of Prophet Zarathustra. Among Parsis in India, Navroz continues to be observed as an important cultural and religious occasion, representing renewal, unity and heritage while reflecting the community's longstanding contribution to Indian society.
