PM Modi Urges Youngsters To Support Families During Digital Census Exercise

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged young people to help their family members provide accurate information during the ongoing Census 2027 through the digital self-enumeration process. Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi said reliable Census data is important for framing government policies, designing welfare programmes and planning India's future development.

Modi said collecting information through the Census is not merely about counting the population but about creating a reliable database that can guide policy decisions. He noted that information gathered during the exercise is used to formulate schemes and prepare development plans for the country. He urged citizens to understand the importance of providing correct details during the enumeration process.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the possibility of errors when information is recorded manually. He said government representatives collecting details may sometimes record names differently on separate occasions, making it harder to maintain accurate records. With digital technology now available, he urged families to take advantage of the option to provide their Census information themselves.

Modi specifically called on youngsters to sit with their family members, carefully review the Census form, correct any errors and submit the information digitally. He said spending one or two hours on the exercise could make a significant contribution to the country by improving the accuracy of the information available to the government.

The Prime Minister described youth participation in the Census as an opportunity for every household to contribute to nation-building. He urged families to create an atmosphere of participation and responsibility around the exercise, stressing that the quality of the information provided would directly affect its usefulness for future planning and governance.

Modi also used his Independence Day address to announce plans to modernise India's civil defence system. He said the government would introduce a modern framework and develop a comprehensive civil defence programme capable of responding to contemporary challenges and protecting citizens during crises. The announcement formed part of a broader focus in his address on strengthening India's preparedness and institutional capabilities.
