Murshidabad Violence: Two Brothers Arrested for Brutal Murder of Father-Son Duo
Brothers Arrested in Murshidabad for Father-Son Murder Amid Waqf Act Violence
West Bengal Police arrested two brothers, Kalu Nadar and Dildar Nadar, on Tuesday for their alleged role in the brutal murder of a father-son duo during violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Murshidabad district.
The arrests bring the total number of apprehensions to 221 in connection with the communal unrest that has rocked the Muslim-majority district since Friday.
The victims, Harogobindo Das, 72, and Chandan Das, 40, were found with multiple stab wounds in their Jafrabad home in Samserganj, a violence-hit area. Police identified the accused, local residents, using CCTV footage, with Kalu arrested in Murarai, Birbhum district, and Dildar nabbed near the India-Bangladesh border in Suti, Murshidabad.

A special investigation team, comprising officers from the STF, CID, and local police, has been formed to probe the murders, which occurred amid clashes that also claimed the life of 21-year-old Ijaz Momin, who succumbed to bullet wounds on Saturday.
The protests, sparked by the Waqf (Amendment) Act’s passage on April 4, turned deadly in Murshidabad, with mobs torching vehicles, attacking police, and vandalizing properties, including TMC MLA Manirul Islam’s home.
Eighteen police personnel were injured, prompting prohibitory orders, internet suspensions, and the blocking of 1,093 social media accounts for spreading disinformation.
The Calcutta High Court ordered Central Armed Police Forces’ deployment, with seven BSF companies now patrolling Suti, Samserganj, and Dhulian. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, opposing the Act, urged calm, asserting it would not be implemented in Bengal, while the BJP accused her of enabling the violence.
