Mumbai Local Trains on Churchgate-Virar Route Restored With Minor Delays

Western Railway restores Churchgate-Virar local train services after rain disruption

Suburban local train services on the Churchgate-Virar corridor were fully restored on Wednesday after heavy rainfall and waterlogging caused disruptions on parts of the Western Railway network. The Mumbai Division of Western Railway said all suburban services were operating regularly and teams were working around the clock to maintain safe and smooth train movement. Passengers were advised to check the latest status of their trains before beginning their journeys.

Although Western Railway said services were operating normally, several commuters reported delays of around 10 to 15 minutes. The network remained functional despite the delays, providing relief to thousands of passengers who depend on Mumbai's suburban railway system for daily travel. Railway teams continued to monitor tracks and other infrastructure following two days of intense rainfall that had affected transport services across Mumbai and surrounding areas.

Services on the Western Railway network were disrupted again on Tuesday evening after water levels rose above the danger mark between Vasai and Virar stations. Suburban train operations on all lines along the affected section were suspended at around 4.30 pm after fresh rainfall inundated the tracks. The disruption came after services had been restored earlier in the day following problems caused by heavy rain on Monday.

Persistent rainfall over the previous two days caused widespread waterlogging and disrupted normal movement across the Mumbai metropolitan region. Railway officials worked to restore affected sections while monitoring water levels and track conditions. With the intensity of rain easing on Wednesday, local train operations and road transport gradually returned to normal, offering relief to residents after prolonged travel difficulties.

The India Meteorological Department forecast moderate rainfall for Mumbai and neighbouring Thane on Wednesday. Palghar remained under a yellow alert, with heavy rain expected at isolated locations. Authorities continued to monitor weather conditions as the monsoon remained active across the region, while railway officials maintained precautionary measures to prevent further disruption if water levels rose again.

Western Railway urged passengers to follow official updates and confirm the status of their trains before travelling. The restoration of the Churchgate-Virar route marked a significant improvement in transport conditions after repeated disruptions caused by heavy rain and flooded tracks. However, commuters were advised to remain prepared for possible delays as railway teams continued safety checks and monitoring across the suburban network.
