MP Raghavendra Announces ₹100-Crore Upgrade For Byndoor Railway Station
MP announces ₹100-crore plan to upgrade Byndoor railway station.
Mookambika Road Byndoor Railway Station in Udupi district is set to be developed as a full-fledged railway station at an estimated cost of around ₹100 crore, Shivamogga Member of Parliament B.Y. Raghavendra said. The station, operated under the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL), is proposed to undergo extensive infrastructure upgrades under the Mookambika Corridor concept.
Raghavendra made the announcement after inspecting ongoing development works and passenger amenities at the station. The station falls within his Lok Sabha constituency, and the MP reviewed the facilities and infrastructure available to passengers. He said the proposed development would significantly improve the station and strengthen its role as an important rail gateway for the region.
Under the proposed plan, Byndoor station will be upgraded as a block station with three loop lines. The development will also include a modern and spacious station building designed to provide improved facilities for passengers. A coach watering facility is among the other infrastructure proposed as part of the project, along with additional improvements intended to enhance the station's operational capacity.

The proposed infrastructure expansion is linked to the Mookambika Corridor concept, which seeks to improve connectivity to the important pilgrimage destination of Kollur Mookambika Temple. Byndoor is an important access point for passengers travelling towards the temple and other destinations in the region. Developing the station with improved facilities is expected to strengthen its ability to handle passenger traffic and railway operations.
Raghavendra also said he had recently submitted a representation to Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna seeking the declaration of Byndoor as the official railway station for Kollur. Such recognition, according to the proposal, could strengthen the station's association with the major pilgrimage destination and improve its visibility among passengers planning journeys to Kollur. The demand is being pursued alongside the proposed infrastructure development.
The proposed ₹100-crore investment would represent a major expansion of facilities at Mookambika Road Byndoor Railway Station. The addition of loop lines, a larger station building and coach watering infrastructure is expected to improve both passenger amenities and railway operations. The development, if implemented as proposed, could give Byndoor a more prominent role in serving passengers travelling to Kollur and other parts of Udupi district.
