MP Officer Slaps Youth at Sacred Narmada Ghat: Public Outrage Erupts

MP District CEO slaps youth at Narmada Ghat for urinating near prayer site, video triggers outrage.

A controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district after a video surfaced showing District Panchayat CEO Gajendra Singh Nagesh slapping a young man at the sacred Narmada Ghat in Barman. The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, has triggered widespread public debate and criticism on social media.

According to officials, Nagesh was visiting the ghat to inspect preparations for the upcoming Makar Sankranti festivities when the incident took place. In a clarification video released later, the CEO claimed the youth was urinating near the ghat, close to an area where women were offering prayers and food, thereby defiling the sanctity of the site.

Nagesh stated that he initially warned the young man to stop, but acted in anger when the warning was ignored. He maintained that his intention was not to assault anyone but to uphold the dignity and religious sanctity of the ghat, calling the situation emotionally charged due to the sacred nature of the location.

However, the incident has drawn sharp criticism from local residents and religious figures. Pandit Kailash Chandra Mishra, a priest at the ghat, alleged that the CEO misbehaved with him as well, used abusive language, issued threats, and even forced him to perform push-ups during the altercation.

The CEO has strongly denied these allegations, claiming they are being exaggerated by individuals unhappy with the administration’s decision regarding trading plots near the ghat. He clarified that all 62 existing traders have already been allotted plots and that new construction within 150 meters of the ghat has been prohibited as per government norms.

Meanwhile, the Karmakandi Brahmin Mahasangh has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, demanding a fair and impartial inquiry into the incident. Authorities have not yet announced whether a formal investigation has been initiated, but the episode continues to draw significant public attention.
