Tripura CM on Veer Bal Diwas: Forced Conversions Wrong, Youth Must Embrace Courage and Morality

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday strongly criticised forced religious conversions, stating that faith should emerge from personal conviction rather than pressure or inducements. Speaking at a Veer Bal Diwas programme held at a Gurdwara in Agartala, he said such practices undermine the true spirit of religion and humanity.

Highlighting the significance of Veer Bal Diwas, the Chief Minister said the occasion serves as a powerful reminder of courage, sacrifice, and moral strength. He noted that the day inspires the younger generation to uphold ethical values and develop resilience in the face of challenges.

Saha expressed concern over incidents of persecution faced by minority communities across different regions and time periods. Referring to historical events, he cited the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits and the sharp decline of Hindu and Sikh populations in areas such as West Pakistan and present-day Bangladesh following Partition.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of raising awareness and building social resistance against forced conversions. He called for collective efforts to raise the issue at both national and international platforms, particularly using the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas to reflect and act responsibly.

Recalling the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saha noted that Veer Bal Diwas was first observed in January 2022 and has since been commemorated nationwide on December 26. He said the day honours the bravery of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons and encourages youth to value faith, patriotism, and self-sacrifice.

Emphasising the role of education, the Chief Minister said proper guidance can help children develop strong moral character and confidence. The event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, along with several prominent members of the Sikh community, marking a solemn and meaningful observance.
