MP Government to Build Advanced Counter-Terrorism Training Centre Near Bhopal

MP plans high-tech counter-terrorism training centre near Bhopal.

The Madhya Pradesh government announced plans on Tuesday to establish a state‑of‑the‑art counter‑terrorist training centre on the outskirts of Bhopal as part of a broader effort to strengthen security preparedness and emergency response capabilities in the central Indian state. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made the announcement after observing a demonstration by the National Security Guard (NSG) and launching a joint capacity‑building programme for Madhya Pradesh police personnel in the state capital.

The proposed facility, to be located in Tumda village near Bhopal, will be modelled on elite training establishments such as the NSG centre in Manesar (Haryana) and specialised Greyhound units in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. A ₹200 crore detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for the training centre’s construction and modernisation of the state’s Counter Terrorist Group (CTG). Work on the project is expected to begin soon.

According to the CM’s office, the new centre will provide comprehensive training for multiple specialised units of the Madhya Pradesh Police, including the Anti‑Terrorism Squad (ATS), Special Task Force (STF), Special Armed Force (SAF) quick reaction teams, and district police units. Officials involved in planning view it as a significant step toward enhancing readiness in the face of evolving extremist threats and urban insurgency scenarios.

Mohan Yadav underscored that because Madhya Pradesh sits near the geographic centre of India, the training centre will not only serve state needs but also support broader national security objectives. Once operational, the facility is expected to reduce dependence on out‑of‑state training resources and enable more tailored, ongoing preparation for counter‑terror and disaster response.

The announcement comes amid ongoing collaboration between the NSG and Madhya Pradesh Police, which has included a month‑long joint training programme in Bhopal featuring mock terrorist attack simulations and advanced tactical drills aimed at improving coordination in high‑pressure situations.

State officials and security analysts say the initiative reflects growing emphasis on proactive internal security measures, equipping state forces with advanced tools and training platforms to address contemporary threats effectively.
