Monsoon Chaos Grips Jammu: Deadly Cloudburst and Floods Ravage Region!
Heavy rains devastate Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, and Kathua, triggering floods and landslides.
While Kishtwar reels from a catastrophic cloudburst that killed at least 38 people in a remote village, other districts in the Jammu region, including Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, and Kathua, are grappling with relentless heavy rainfall, causing widespread disruption. The torrential downpours have unleashed flash floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage, severely impacting daily life across the region.
In Rajouri, two minor children were injured when their house collapsed in Khargala village, requiring hospitalization. In Poonch, the home of Special Police Officer Altaf Hussain Shah in Gali Pindi crumbled under the rain’s intensity, leaving his family in distress, while five families in Bandi Kama Khan village were relocated after their homes developed cracks.
Udhampur saw similar devastation, with a house collapse prompting evacuations, and five villages in Ramnagar tehsil were cut off after the Kougha–Chigli Pingla road was damaged. In Kathua’s Khokhayal village, flooding inundated homes and shops, leaving residents struggling.
The heavy rains have swollen rivers like Tawi, Chenab, Ujh, and Suran, flooding roads and residential areas. The Mata Vaishno Devi yatra on Reasi’s Himkoti track was halted, with pilgrims urged to follow safety advisories.
District administrations have issued alerts, urging residents to avoid rivers, drains, and landslide-prone hilly areas. Despite the chaos, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains operational, providing a critical lifeline for traffic movement.
