Mohanlal Joins "Operation Toofan": Kerala's Three-Phase Anti-Drug Initiative With Central Agency Support
Superstar Mohanlal joins Kerala's multi-agency anti-drug campaign Operation Toofan.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is set to join Kerala’s statewide anti-drug initiative “Operation Toofan,” a major crackdown aimed at strengthening awareness campaigns and enforcement efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state. The announcement was made on Tuesday following a high-level review meeting chaired by Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, which brought together multiple enforcement and security agencies.
According to officials, Operation Toofan will be implemented in three structured phases titled “Toofan Strike,” “Toofan Warriors,” and “Toofan Care.” The multi-phase approach is designed to combine enforcement action with public awareness drives and rehabilitation-focused support systems, targeting both supply chains and community-level prevention of drug abuse.
The initiative is expected to involve coordination between state agencies and several central enforcement bodies, including Customs, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Railway Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Coast Guard. Authorities stated that the collaboration aims to strengthen surveillance and crack down on drug trafficking networks operating through multiple transport and trade routes.

Officials said Mohanlal’s participation is intended to boost public outreach and awareness campaigns under the initiative, leveraging his influence to spread anti-drug messaging among youth and communities. His involvement is expected to support the “Toofan Care” phase, which focuses on education, prevention, and rehabilitation efforts alongside enforcement actions.
The Kerala government has described Operation Toofan as a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to tackle the growing concern of drug abuse in the state. Authorities added that sustained enforcement combined with community engagement will be key to the success of the campaign, which is expected to roll out in phases across districts in the coming months.
