Mayawati Urges Quick Action to Address Voter List Concerns

BSP chief calls for resolving doubts over voter rolls swiftly.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has called for the immediate removal of doubts related to voter lists, the ongoing electoral roll revision, and the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In a post on X coinciding with the start of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s Monsoon session on Monday, she said it would be in the best interest of the country if these issues were addressed without delay.

Mayawati stressed that the Monsoon session, despite being brief, should not be treated as a mere formality. She urged both the government and the opposition to set aside political differences, animosity, and bitterness in order to make the proceedings meaningful for the people of the state. According to her, the session should be utilised to focus on public welfare and discussions that directly benefit citizens rather than partisan disputes.

She also drew attention to developments in the national political arena, particularly disruptions in Parliament that have prevented the smooth conduct of legislative business. Mayawati expressed concern that “burning issues” of public importance were not being discussed with the seriousness they deserve. She urged that key matters, including the revision of voter rolls and concerns about voter data integrity, be deliberated upon thoroughly in legislative forums.

Highlighting another pressing matter, the BSP leader said the potential economic and developmental impact of heavy US tariffs on Indian trade warranted urgent attention in Parliament. She described it as a special issue of national interest linked to the country’s future growth and prosperity. Mayawati noted that the tariff hike was being widely debated across the country and warned that ignoring its implications could have long-term consequences.

By linking electoral transparency with economic concerns, Mayawati positioned both issues as critical for public trust and national progress, urging lawmakers at both state and national levels to act responsibly.
