Mayawati Urges Unity on Operation Sindoor Debate
Parliament’s fiery discussion demands non-partisan national security focus.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati called for a non-partisan approach to the parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor, set to begin today, urging both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition to prioritize national security over political divides. The discussion, sparked by the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, marks a shift from a week of disruptions in the Monsoon Session to a critical debate on India’s counter-terrorism strategy.
In a post on X, Mayawati emphasized, “The discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ should rise above partisan politics.” She urged the government and opposition to collaborate on a robust strategy to prevent further loss of life, stating, “No woman’s sindoor should be wiped away, no mother should lose her son.” The debate, listed as a “special discussion” in the Lok Sabha, will focus on India’s decisive response to the Pahalgam attack.
The NDA, led by the BJP, is expected to deploy Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, with sources hinting at a possible intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to underscore a strong anti-terrorism stance. Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, respectively, alongside Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, are poised to challenge the government’s approach.
