Massive Blast at Pakistan Supreme Court:12 Injured in Major Gas Leak Accident
A gas explosion in the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s cafeteria injured 12 and forced mass evacuation.
Panic gripped Islamabad on Tuesday morning after a massive explosion shook the Supreme Court of Pakistan. According to official reports, the blast originated in the basement of the court building, leaving at least 12 people injured and causing visible structural tremors across the lower floors.
Authorities confirmed that the explosion was triggered by a gas cylinder inside the cafeteria located beneath the main courtroom complex. The impact was so strong that it rattled the entire building, forcing lawyers, judges, and staff members to evacuate rapidly to open areas outside for safety. Videos circulating on social media show smoke in the basement area and minor damage to parts of the structure.
Islamabad’s Inspector General, Ali Nasir Rizvi, stated that the incident occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. while technicians were conducting maintenance work near an air conditioning plant. He added that among the twelve victims, the AC technicians sustained the most serious injuries, with one suffering burns over 80 percent of his body. All injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment.
