Manipur CM Condemns Bishnupur Bomb Attack, Promises Legal Action Against Perpetrators
Two children killed in Bishnupur bomb attack; CM vows action.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday condemned a bomb attack in Bishnupur district that killed a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old girl, leaving their mother injured. He assured that those responsible would be identified and dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai village, near the mountainous Churachandpur district. Police officials said a powerful bomb, allegedly fired by suspected Kuki militants, exploded inside a residence while the victims were asleep. The blast caused significant damage to parts of the house, and the children were killed on the spot. Their mother sustained injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Imphal.
CM Singh visited the injured woman at Raj Medicity in Imphal and directed officials to ensure the highest level of medical care. Taking to social media, he called the attack “barbaric” and an “assault on humanity,” emphasizing that such acts of terror would not be tolerated. He urged residents to remain united and refrain from violence, blockades, or vandalism that could escalate tensions.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that the attack might be an attempt to destabilize the state and derail the ongoing peace process. “Whenever the government initiates efforts to restore peace, sporadic incidents of violence tend to occur. There are vested interests attempting to disturb Manipur’s hard-earned tranquility,” he said, noting the proximity of the village to areas reportedly occupied by armed Kuki militant groups.
Following the blast, local residents blocked roads and set three trucks on fire en route to Churachandpur district, further heightening tensions. A large contingent of security forces has been deployed, and combing operations are underway to apprehend those responsible.
Local BJP MLA Shanti Singh also condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous act of terrorism” allegedly carried out by “Kuki narco-terrorists.” He called for swift action against the perpetrators to ensure justice and restore public confidence in the region’s safety.
