Mahayuti Alliance Wins 207 of 288 Municipal Presidential Posts in Maharashtra
Ruling alliance dominates local body elections with massive wins.
The Mahayuti alliance—consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party—delivered a commanding performance in the elections for 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Maharashtra, clinching an overwhelming 207 presidential posts as final tallies were confirmed by the State Election Commission late Sunday night.
Emerging as the undisputed single-largest entity, the BJP alone secured 117 presidential positions, demonstrating its robust organizational strength, while its allies contributed substantially with Shiv Sena capturing 53 seats and the NCP adding 37, collectively reinforcing the coalition's grip on urban local governance following their triumph in the previous year's Assembly polls.
In stark contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition struggled significantly, managing a mere 44 posts overall, with Congress leading the fragmented opposition tally at 28 wins, followed by the Sharad Pawar faction of NCP with seven and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena limited to nine, highlighting persistent challenges in regaining public confidence at the grassroots level.

Regional highlights further underscored Mahayuti's dominance, particularly the NCP's impressive haul of 10 out of 17 presidential posts in Pune district alone, while the remaining seats were distributed among independents claiming five, unrecognized registered parties taking 28, and state-recognized but smaller entities securing four, across the 286 contested positions supplemented by two unopposed declarations.
Top leadership from the alliance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, extended profound gratitude to Maharashtra's electorate, interpreting the resounding mandate as a definitive affirmation of development-oriented governance and committing to intensified efforts in realizing citizen aspirations through sustained grassroots engagement.
