Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test Postponed Following Paper Leak Report
Exam postponed after paper leak reported.
The Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for Sunday has been postponed after an alleged question paper leak surfaced nearly 24 hours before the examination, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation and suspend the test in the interest of exam integrity.
The Maharashtra State Examination Council issued an official statement on Saturday confirming that the TET 2026 examination, which was planned to be conducted across 1,028 centres in the state, has been deferred to ensure transparency and protect the credibility of the assessment process. The council said a revised schedule will be announced after further review and official decision-making.
According to preliminary reports, acting on confidential information in the early hours of Saturday, the Bhiwandi Police conducted a raid at a location where individuals were allegedly found in possession of pages believed to be part of the sealed TET 2026 question paper packet. Officials from the examination council were called to verify the material, following which a criminal case was registered at the Bhiwandi Police Station.

Sources indicated that the leaked question paper had surfaced in the Thane region nearly a day before the exam, raising concerns about possible organised malpractice. Police reportedly detained several individuals in connection with the incident, although their identities have not yet been disclosed. Investigators are currently examining how the confidential material was accessed and circulated.
The council emphasised that the decision to postpone the examination was necessary to ensure a fair and transparent testing process for all candidates. It also noted that a detailed press note explaining the circumstances of the alleged leak would be issued soon, along with updated information regarding the rescheduled examination date on its official website.
The postponement has affected around 4.28 lakh aspirants who were expected to appear for the test across Maharashtra. The incident comes amid renewed scrutiny of examination security mechanisms, especially after a similar alleged leak reported in 2025. Police and education authorities continue to investigate the case to determine the full extent of the breach and identify those responsible.
