Madhya Pradesh Transfers Rs 304 Crore To 1.21 Lakh Students For Laptops

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday transferred more than Rs 304 crore to the bank accounts of over 1.21 lakh meritorious Class 12 students under the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana. The financial assistance is intended to help eligible students purchase laptops for their higher education and academic needs.

Under the scheme, students who secure 75 per cent or more marks in Class 12 in their first attempt are eligible to receive Rs 25,000 each. The latest transfer was made during a programme at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in Bhopal. Yadav also interacted with students and symbolically distributed laptops to 10 beneficiaries during the event.

Several students participating in the programme had also cleared competitive examinations, including NEET and JEE Main, alongside their Class 12 examinations. Yadav encouraged students to remain humble after achieving success and to treat setbacks as opportunities to learn. He emphasised the importance of continuing to move forward after failures and learning from mistakes.

The Chief Minister highlighted various educational support measures being provided by the state government, including textbooks, uniforms, bicycles, laptops and scooters. He also outlined the expansion of medical education in Madhya Pradesh, noting that the state currently has 33 government and private medical colleges with more than 6,500 MBBS seats. The government has set a target of increasing the number of medical colleges to 55 and undergraduate medical seats to 10,000 by 2028.

School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh noted that more than 6.5 lakh students have so far received a combined Rs 1,620 crore under the laptop assistance scheme. He added that more than 1.21 lakh students were eligible for financial assistance this year based on their Class 12 results.

Singh also highlighted developments in government school enrolment and staffing. He noted that enrolment had increased over the past three years and that the state government was working to fill around 18,000 vacant teacher posts. Around 70,000 to 72,000 guest teachers are currently working in government schools, according to the minister.
