The incident prompted an immediate medical response, with doctors treating the students and monitoring their condition. Officials said the children responded to treatment and were doing well after receiving medical attention, while authorities continued to assess the situation.
According to officials, the first symptoms emerged at around 6 pm on Monday, when some students began complaining of nausea and stomach pain. The school hostel warden responded promptly after noticing that several girls were unwell and arranged for them to be taken to the hospital. Some of the students were reportedly suffering from dehydration when they arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Medical teams began treatment immediately, administering intravenous fluids and medicines to help address the dehydration and other symptoms reported by the children.
The initial group of 24 students was admitted to the hospital on Monday night, with doctors keeping them under observation following their arrival. Seven additional students were brought to the hospital on Tuesday, taking the total number of hospitalised children to at least 31. The students’ symptoms included nausea, vomiting and stomachache, although the information available so far does not establish a confirmed cause for the illness. Doctors continued to assess the children as authorities sought more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

West Bengal Health Minister Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital late on Monday night to take stock of the situation and review the treatment being provided to the students. The minister’s visit came as the first group of children was receiving medical care. According to officials, the students showed a significant improvement after treatment, with the children reported to be doing fine within about an hour of receiving intravenous fluids and medicines. Medical staff continued to monitor them as a precaution and remained prepared to treat any additional students who developed similar symptoms.
The hospitalisation of multiple students from the same school has prompted authorities to pay close attention to the circumstances in which the children fell ill. While several students reported similar symptoms within a relatively short period, officials have not yet established whether the cases were connected to a common cause. The symptoms could require further medical and administrative assessment before authorities determine what may have triggered the illness. The focus remained on ensuring that all affected students received appropriate care and that their health was closely monitored.
