Kerala Cyber Police Probe Hoax Bomb Threat Email Sent To Rajasthan Collector
Kerala police investigate hoax email sent to Rajasthan collector claiming bomb threats across state institutions.
Kerala Police have launched a detailed investigation after a District Collector in Rajasthan received a hoax email threatening bomb blasts at courts and collectorates across Kerala. The email triggered immediate concern across administrative circles, prompting coordination between Rajasthan and Kerala authorities. Although no real threat was found, the alert led to precautionary security measures at several government buildings in Kerala before the message was confirmed as fake.
According to officials, the email was received on May 6 at the official email address of the District Collector of Bikaner in Rajasthan. The message was written in Hindi and contained alarming claims that coordinated explosions would take place at multiple collectorates and court complexes across Kerala. The nature of the message prompted Rajasthan authorities to quickly inform Kerala Police, treating it as a potential security threat until verified otherwise.
Following the alert, Kerala Police conducted security checks at key administrative offices, court premises, and other sensitive government locations across the state. Bomb detection and disposal squads were deployed as part of standard precautionary procedures. After thorough inspections, officials confirmed that no explosives, suspicious materials, or credible threats were found, and the situation was declared a hoax with no operational risk to public safety.

The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police registered a formal case on Friday after receiving directions from Police Headquarters. Investigators have begun examining digital traces linked to the email, including server routes and possible anonymisation tools used by the sender. Authorities are also coordinating with central cyber agencies to track whether the message originated domestically or from an overseas source.
Preliminary technical analysis suggests that the email may have been generated using anonymised tools or possibly routed through the dark web to conceal identity. However, officials have not confirmed the exact method and say multiple possibilities are being examined. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the Kerala Police Act, reflecting the seriousness of cyber-related threat communications.
Police officials further stated that cyber teams are actively working to identify the origin of the threat and trace the responsible individual or group. They added that such hoax emails, even when not credible, are treated with high priority due to their potential to disrupt public order. Security has also been tightened at sensitive installations as a precaution while the investigation continues.
