KCR Launches Mass Movement to Protect Telangana Irrigation Projects and Interests
KCR announces mass movement against Centre and state govt over Palamuru-Ranga Reddy irrigation project delay.
Former Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Sunday announced a massive mass movement to safeguard Telangana’s interests and highlight delays in irrigation projects, particularly the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project across the Krishna River. The announcement came after a joint meeting of BRS party executives, legislature, and parliamentary members at Telangana Bhavan.
KCR vowed to personally lead the movement, accusing the Congress government in Telangana and the BJP-led Centre of neglecting the state’s developmental projects. “We have given sufficient time. Now I have decided to personally step in. There will be no niceties. We will fight to protect the interests of Telangana,” he declared. The agitation is planned to cover every village in Palamuru (Mahabubnagar), Ranga Reddy, and Nalgonda districts, culminating in a major public rally.
The BRS chief alleged that inefficiency and political interference had endangered Telangana’s rights over Krishna and Godavari river waters. He claimed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project was returned by the Centre after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu allegedly influenced the NDA government to stall the initiative. KCR questioned the Congress government’s silence and inaction over the last two years.

Criticising current governance, KCR claimed that Telangana has lost its earlier momentum under BRS rule. He pointed to falling land prices, rising crime rates, and diminishing law and order compared to the BRS tenure. He alleged that the Congress government came to power with false promises and engaged in personal attacks against him, particularly targeting CM Revanth Reddy.
KCR ridiculed the ongoing focus on ‘Future City’ projects, asserting that Hyderabad’s development cannot be fast-tracked through hype or MoUs. He claimed that Telangana achieved notable progress under BRS rule, including land value appreciation and farmers’ welfare, while Andhra Pradesh’s previous MoUs failed to attract promised investments.
The former CM concluded by asserting that the mass movement would continue until the state’s irrigation projects are expedited and the people’s interests are safeguarded. The announcement is expected to escalate political discourse in Telangana and place renewed pressure on both state and central authorities to address stalled development initiatives.
