Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Announces Bill to Curb Religious Hate, Assures Minority Welfare
Telangana leader sparks outrage with Gandhi praise.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy unveiled plans to table a comprehensive new legislation in the upcoming budget session of the Assembly specifically designed to combat religious hatred by imposing significantly stricter punishments on individuals found guilty of insulting, abusing, or spreading hate against any faith, reinforcing the state's commitment to equal rights across all religions.
During his address at a grand government-organized Christmas celebration in Hyderabad, Reddy assured minority communities unrestricted access to all welfare schemes implemented by the Congress-led administration while pledging prompt resolution to long-pending issues concerning allocation of graveyard lands for Christian and Muslim populations across the state.
Reddy designated December as a profound "Miracle Month" for both Telangana and the Congress party, drawing direct connections between former Congress president Sonia Gandhi's birthday on December 9 and the historic granting of separate statehood to Telangana, crediting her bold decision despite substantial political setbacks faced by the party in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister ignited widespread controversy through his viral remarks asserting that the very ability to celebrate Christmas freely in Telangana today stems directly from Sonia Gandhi's immense sacrifices and pivotal contributions, a statement that rapidly circulated across social media platforms and drew intense scrutiny.
Opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, unleashed scathing criticism labeling the comments as peak sycophancy, with BJP accusing Reddy of shamelessly hijacking a global religious festival for partisan bootlicking and BRS sarcastically highlighting the absurdity of attributing nationwide Christmas observances to the efforts of a single political figure.
