Karnataka CM Shivakumar To Send Nagendra’s Resignation Letter To Governor

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday announced that he would send the resignation letter of former minister B. Nagendra to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot later in the day. Nagendra, who held the Planning and Statistics portfolio, resigned from the state Cabinet amid a political controversy surrounding the alleged Valmiki Corporation scam. Shivakumar maintained that Nagendra had voluntarily stepped down to prevent embarrassment to the Congress party.

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Shivakumar also criticised the BJP and JD(S) over their planned protest march. He accused the Opposition of focusing on political issues rather than matters affecting the state and its people. According to the Chief Minister, issues such as drought and the Cauvery water dispute required greater attention, and the Opposition should have raised these matters for discussion in the Assembly.

Shivakumar maintained that he had asked the Opposition to submit a notice and participate in a discussion in the Assembly, but alleged that they had instead concentrated on Nagendra’s resignation. He described the resignation as a step taken by Nagendra to avoid embarrassment to the party and accused the Opposition of using the matter for political purposes.

The Chief Minister also alleged that the BJP and JD(S) were unable to accept his becoming Karnataka Chief Minister. He further criticised the Opposition’s approach to the controversy, maintaining that the government was prepared to discuss issues affecting the state in the Assembly. His remarks came as the political dispute over Nagendra’s resignation continued to intensify.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and former minister B. Sriramulu targeted the Congress over Nagendra’s resignation. Sriramulu argued that the BJP was not responsible for Nagendra’s distress and linked the former minister’s situation to the controversy surrounding the alleged scam. He also referred to the death of Dalit officer Chandrashekar and the concerns surrounding the case.

BJP MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy also challenged Nagendra’s political position and said the BJP was ready to face him in an election. Reddy questioned Nagendra over allegations linked to the transfer of Rs 187 crore to hundreds of accounts and raised questions about the alleged use of the money in connection with an election. These remain allegations made by the BJP as the wider controversy continues.
