School Collapse Kills Six, Shocks Rajasthan!
A devastating collapse at Piplodi Government Upper Primary School in Manoharthana block, Jhalawar district, claimed the lives of six students and injured 29 others on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 7:45 AM as approximately 35 students gathered for morning prayers, when the roof of the single-storey building, housing classes 6 and 7, gave way due to its dilapidated condition, exacerbated by recent heavy rainfall.
Police identified five victims as Kundar, Kanha, Raidas, Anuradha, and Badal Bhil. Rescue operations, involving teachers, villagers, and JCB machines, swiftly extracted students from the debris. Ten injured children were rushed to Jhalawar District Hospital, with three to four in critical condition, two of whom were transferred to a specialized health center.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on X, stating, “The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected families. Authorities are providing all possible assistance.” Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma echoed the sentiment, ensuring proper treatment for the injured and praying for the deceased.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar ordered a high-level inquiry to investigate the structural failure, directing officials to prioritize medical care. “A very unfortunate incident occurred in Piplodi village... I will get a high-level inquiry done,” he said. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and opposition leader Tikaram Jully also expressed condolences, praying for the injured’s recovery.
Initial reports suggest the school’s aging infrastructure, weakened by persistent rains, caused the collapse, raising concerns about school safety across Rajasthan. The district administration, led by the Jhalawar Collector, is overseeing relief efforts, with Kota Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Singh Shekhawat visiting the injured.
