#JUSTIN: Fire Engulfs Jharsuguda Railway Station, Disrupts Train Operations in Odisha

Major fire breaks out at Jharsuguda railway station in Odisha due to suspected short circuit, disrupting train services.

A major fire broke out at Jharsuguda railway station in Odisha around 11 AM on Tuesday, reportedly due to a short circuit, causing panic among passengers and disrupting train services. Thick smoke quickly engulfed parts of the station, forcing an immediate evacuation.

Officials said the blaze originated in the single cabin adjacent to the Station Manager-2 cabin, possibly from an air-conditioning unit. The fire spread rapidly, affecting the station’s electrical system and cutting off power supply to the entire facility.

Fire brigade teams rushed to the station and worked to bring the blaze under control, while Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police coordinated evacuation and safety measures for passengers. No casualties have been reported so far.

Several critical areas, including the station master’s chamber, DTC chamber, ticket counters, and portions of the railway line, were damaged. Train operations on affected routes have been suspended until the electrical systems are restored and the situation stabilises.

Railway authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. Passengers have been advised to check train schedules and alternative routes, as restoration of normal operations may take several hours. The incident underscores the need for regular safety audits and preventive maintenance at busy railway stations.
