Fire Erupts at Rayagada Theatre During Prabhas’ ‘The Raja Saab’ Screening

Fire erupts during Prabhas film screening as fans light crackers.

A fire broke out at Ashok Talkies in Rayagada district, Odisha, during the screening of Prabhas' latest release The Raja Saab on Friday. The incident occurred at the precise moment of the actor's grand on-screen entry, when enthusiastic fans near the screen began performing aarti and attempting to burst crackers inside the cinema hall. The sudden blaze ignited near the projection area, momentarily causing panic among the audience.

The fire was triggered by the lit crackers and aarti materials used by the fans to celebrate Prabhas' appearance in the film. Reports indicate that the group acted in the heat of excitement, unaware of the safety risks involved in lighting pyrotechnics within an enclosed theatre space. Quick intervention by theatre staff and alert viewers helped contain the flames before they could spread further.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported from the incident. The cinema hall sustained only minor damage, primarily limited to the area near the screen. As a precautionary measure, the screening was immediately halted, allowing all patrons to exit safely while authorities assessed the situation and ensured the venue remained secure.

The Raja Saab, written and directed by Maruthi, features Prabhas in the lead role alongside Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Boman Irani. Released on January 9 in multiple languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, the film blends emotional drama with supernatural elements. It follows a man living with his Alzheimer’s-afflicted grandmother in a remote village, who sets out on a heartfelt journey to reunite her with her long-lost husband.

The incident highlights the intense fan fervor surrounding Prabhas' films and the potential dangers of celebratory actions inside cinema halls. While the screening resumed after necessary safety checks, theatre management has reiterated strict adherence to fire safety protocols. Authorities are reviewing the event to prevent similar occurrences during future screenings of high-profile releases.
