#JUSTIN: Asiya Andrabi Found Guilty Under UAPA in Major Terror Conspiracy Case

A Delhi court has convicted Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi under UAPA, with sentencing scheduled for January 17.

A Delhi court on January 14, 2026, convicted prominent Kashmiri Separatist Leader Asiya Andrabi, Chief of the women’s separatist organization Dukhtaran-e-Millat, under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Additional Sessions Judge Chanderjit Singh held her guilty under Section 18 (punishment for conspiracy) and Section 38 (offense relating to membership of a terrorist organization) of the anti-terror law.

Asiya Andrabi was arrested in April 2018 in connection with a case linked to her alleged involvement in promoting separatist activities and maintaining ties with banned terror outfits. The case was investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which accused her of being part of a larger conspiracy to fuel unrest in Jammu and Kashmir.

The court delivered the verdict after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on January 17, 2026, when the judge will decide the punishment after considering arguments on mitigation and aggravating factors.

Asiya Andrabi has been a vocal figure in the Kashmiri separatist movement for decades, often leading protests and advocating for the right to self-determination. Her conviction marks a significant development in the ongoing legal crackdown on separatist leaders and groups in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

This verdict has once again drawn attention to the use of UAPA in high-profile cases in the region, with supporters of Andrabi calling it politically motivated, while authorities maintain that the law is being applied strictly to curb terrorism and secessionist activities. The final sentencing on January 17 will determine the prison term she will serve.
