Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak Sworn In As Gujarat HC Judge After Transfer
Justice Pathak assumes office after his transfer to Gujarat HC.
Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak took oath as a judge of the Gujarat High Court on Monday following his transfer from the Orissa High Court. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal administered the oath of office to Justice Pathak during a ceremony held at the Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad, marking his formal assumption of judicial responsibilities in the state.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by judges of the Gujarat High Court, senior members of the legal profession and court officials. Advocate General Kamal Trivedi was among those present at the event. Justice Pathak’s appointment to the Gujarat High Court follows the transfer process initiated after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his movement from the Orissa High Court.
Justice Pathak’s transfer was subsequently ordered by President Droupadi Murmu. His parent High Court is the Gauhati High Court, and his movement to Gujarat is part of a broader process of transfers involving judges between different High Courts. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of two judges from the Orissa High Court at its meeting on August 6.

Along with Justice Pathak, the Collegium recommended the transfer of Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra from the Orissa High Court to the Chhattisgarh High Court. The recommendations were subsequently followed by the required transfer process, resulting in Justice Pathak’s appointment to the Gujarat High Court.
Justice Pathak was initially appointed as a judge in 2013, with records of the Gujarat High Court noting May 22, 2013, as the date of his initial appointment as an Additional Judge. Before joining the judiciary, he had enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on September 12, 1990.
With Monday’s oath-taking ceremony, Justice Pathak has formally joined the Gujarat High Court and assumed his judicial duties. His induction adds to the Bench of the Gujarat High Court following the recent movement of judges between various High Courts as part of the judiciary’s transfer process.
