L-G reviews pilgrim facilities and security at Nunwan base camp.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam to review arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026. During the visit, he held meetings with senior officials to assess key aspects of the pilgrimage, including pilgrim movement, security, accommodation, registration and other logistical preparations aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe journey for devotees.
According to the Lieutenant Governor, officials have been directed to give the highest priority to the safety, security and convenience of pilgrims throughout the 57-day pilgrimage. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring that devotees undertake the yatra only with valid registration and designated travel dates, a measure intended to reduce congestion and waiting time at various transit points.
During his visit, Sinha interacted with pilgrims at the Nunwan base camp and assured them that the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and all departments associated with the yatra are working in close coordination to facilitate a hassle-free pilgrimage. He said the administration remains committed to providing essential services and maintaining efficient management throughout the annual religious event.

Officials said that more than 20,000 pilgrims have completed the pilgrimage and returned to their home states within the first two days since the yatra commenced on July 3. The fourth batch of pilgrims comprised 6,721 devotees, including 4,576 men, 1,310 women, 22 children, 572 sadhus, 154 sadhvis and several foreign pilgrims. Separate convoys carrying pilgrims departed for both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes under comprehensive security arrangements.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festivals of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. The holy cave shrine, situated at an altitude of about 3,880 metres, is revered for its naturally formed ice stalagmite, which devotees believe symbolises Lord Shiva. This year, helicopter services have not been made available as the area beyond the two base camps has been declared a no-fly zone for security reasons.
Authorities have reiterated that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure the successful conduct of the pilgrimage, with multiple agencies working together to provide security, medical assistance, accommodation and other essential facilities for thousands of pilgrims expected to visit the shrine during the annual yatra.
