IndiGo Cancels Tbilisi and Almaty Flights Amid Iran Tensions
IndiGo cancels Tbilisi, Almaty flights due to Iran tensions.
IndiGo on Sunday announced the cancellation of flights to Tbilisi and Almaty due to escalating geopolitical tensions in and around Iran, which have disrupted air travel across key international corridors. The airline confirmed that flights scheduled on January 25 from Delhi to Tbilisi and Mumbai to Almaty, including their return journeys, would not operate.
The airline further cautioned that flights on January 26 to and from Tbilisi, Almaty, Baku, and Tashkent may face brief stops at Doha for refuelling. IndiGo emphasized that no other operational disruptions had been reported so far but urged passengers to check flight statuses and make necessary arrangements to avoid inconvenience.
The cancellations come as increased clashes between Iran and the United States, coupled with broader regional instability, have forced airlines worldwide to reconsider routes over Iranian airspace. This corridor, which links Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, has become a high-risk zone for commercial flights, leading to delays and reroutings.

Aviation regulators and carriers have cited safety concerns as the primary reason for avoiding Iranian and nearby airspace. As a result, global carriers are adjusting schedules and flight paths, causing longer travel times and operational challenges for international airlines, including IndiGo.
IndiGo’s spokesperson highlighted that passenger safety remains the airline’s top priority and that all affected travelers will receive assistance with rescheduling or refunds. The airline also committed to closely monitoring the situation and updating passengers about any further disruptions.
Analysts say the current instability in the region could continue to impact international travel for the coming weeks. Airlines operating over the Middle East may have to maintain rerouted schedules and extended flight times until the geopolitical situation stabilizes.
