IMD Yellow Alert For Mumbai as Maximum Temperature Touches 36°C on June 12
Mumbai monsoon delayed as IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms and high humidity.
Mumbai is expected to experience hot and humid weather conditions on June 12, with weather agencies warning of isolated thunderstorms and an unsettled day across the city and surrounding regions. According to forecasts, the day will begin with high heat and breezy conditions, followed by possible thunderstorms in certain pockets, reflecting the delayed progress of the southwest monsoon in the region.
Meteorological data indicates that the maximum temperature in Mumbai may rise to around 36°C, while humidity levels are expected to remain high throughout the day. The probability of rainfall stands at approximately 83%, suggesting intermittent showers rather than sustained monsoon rain. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious while stepping outdoors due to the combination of heat stress and sudden weather changes.
By afternoon and evening, the city may witness spotty thunderstorms in select areas, followed by partly cloudy skies later at night. Night-time temperatures are expected to remain elevated at around 30°C, contributing to uncomfortable and sticky conditions for residents. The overall weather pattern reflects unstable atmospheric activity typical of the pre-monsoon phase in coastal Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has noted that the southwest monsoon currently remains stalled over the south Konkan region, delaying its further advance into Mumbai. However, conditions are considered favourable for gradual progression into parts of central Arabian Sea and Maharashtra over the next two to three days, raising expectations of eventual monsoon arrival in the city.
Across Maharashtra, scattered rainfall activity has been forecast over Konkan, Goa, and adjoining areas between June 12 and June 17. At the same time, temperatures are expected to rise slightly by 2–3°C until June 13 before stabilising. The combination of heat buildup and moisture is likely to continue supporting isolated thunderstorm development in several districts during this period.
As the monsoon remains delayed, Mumbai continues to experience a transitional weather phase marked by humidity, heat, and intermittent rainfall. Weather officials have maintained a yellow alert for the region, urging citizens to stay updated on forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially during sudden thunderstorms and high-temperature conditions.
