IIT Madras Extends GATE 2027 Registration Deadline Till October 5 Without Late Fee
IIT Madras allows late fee applications until October 12, with corrections afterwards.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has extended the registration deadline for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, giving candidates additional time to complete their applications without paying a late fee. The revised deadline for regular registration is October 5, 2026, compared with the earlier deadline of September 27. The extension follows requests from candidates seeking more time to complete the registration process.
Candidates who miss the October 5 deadline will still be able to submit their applications with a late fee until October 12, 2026. After the registration period closes, applicants will have an opportunity to make corrections to their submitted forms. The application correction window is scheduled to remain open from October 14 to October 21, allowing candidates to rectify permitted details before the examination process moves ahead.
Registration for GATE 2027 began on September 2, 2026. The examination will be conducted as a computer-based test across 30 papers. Candidates can appear for one paper or select up to two papers from the combinations permitted under the examination rules. The city allotment notification is scheduled to be released on January 4, 2027, ahead of the examination.

GATE 2027 will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The examination is open to eligible undergraduate students and graduates from disciplines including engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts and humanities. There is no age limit for appearing in GATE, and candidates can take the examination multiple times, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.
The application fee is Rs 1,000 for female candidates and candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disabilities categories. For other candidates, the application fee is Rs 2,000. Payments can be made online using UPI, net banking, credit cards or debit cards. Candidates are advised to complete their applications before the applicable deadline and check the examination requirements carefully.
The GATE 2027 results are scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027. With the regular registration deadline now extended to October 5, candidates who have not yet applied have additional time to complete the process without a late fee. Those requiring more time can use the extended late-fee window until October 12, while applicants who need to correct eligible details will be able to do so during the October 14–21 correction period.
